Historical Importance
Jannat al-Mualla has served as the main burial ground for the citizens of Makkah since before the advent of Islam. Located in the Al-Hujoon neighborhood, it is situated within walking distance (approx. 1.2 km) from the northern courtyard of Masjid al-Haram.
Prominent Burials
This cemetery houses the graves of some of the most influential figures in early Islamic history:
- Hazrat Khadijah (R.A): The beloved first wife of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the mother of his children.
- Qasim bin Muhammad: The eldest son of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who died in infancy.
- Abdul Muttalib: The grandfather of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who raised him after his parents passed away.
- Abu Talib: The uncle of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who supported him during the difficult early years of prophethood.
Visiting Guide for Pilgrims
Pilgrims can easily visit the cemetery on foot after performing prayers at the Haram or take a short taxi ride. It is open during daytime hours. There is a pedestrian bridge overlooking the cemetery, providing a clear view for visitors.
