For elderly or disabled pilgrims, Masjid Al Haram offers excellent extensive accessibility options.

1. Free Wheelchairs (Government)

  • Location: Specific distribution points (usually near King Abdulaziz Gate or eastern plazas).
  • Requirement: Valid ID/Passport.
  • Self-Push: You must push it yourself (or have a family member push). You cannot take these outside the Haram plaza.

2. Paid Electric Scooters (Tawaf & Sa'i)

  • Location: Mezzanine Floor (for Tawaf) and Sa'i floors.
  • Cost:
    • Single seater: ~50-100 SAR (varies by season/demand).
    • Double seater: ~100-200 SAR.
  • Pros: Independent, fast, no physical exertion.
  • Cons: Paid service, allocated separate track.

3. Hired Pushers (Green Uniform)

  • Official Pushers: Wear designated vests/uniforms.
  • Cost: Fixed rates (approx. 70-100 SAR for Sa'i, more for Tawaf).
  • Avoid: Illegal freelancers without uniforms. They may overcharge or abandon you.

Accessibility Routes

  • Ramps: Available at Al-Marwa, Arqam, and newer extensions.
  • Mataf: Wheelchairs are generally NOT allowed on the ground floor Mataf (around Kaaba) during peak times. They are directed to upper floors or the dedicated mezzanine ring.
