Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport (MED) is small, modern, and very convenient. It is only 15-20 km from the Prophet's Mosque.
Transport Options
1. Official Taxis
- Location: Curbside right outside arrivals.
- Cost: Generally fixed/metered around 50 - 70 SAR.
- Time: 20 Minutes.
- Capacity: Standard sedans (max 2-3 suitcases).
2. Uber / Careem
- Availability: Excellent.
- Cost: Often cheaper than airport taxis (35 - 50 SAR).
- Pickup: Follow signs to the designated ride-share parking area.
3. SAPTCO Bus
- Route: Airport to Masjid Nabawi (near various hotels).
- Cost: Very cheap (~10-15 SAR).
- Frequency: Every 30 minutes during peak season.
- Drawback: Drop-off might be far from your specific hotel if you are on the outskirts of the Markazia.
4. Haramain Train
- Note: The train station is NOT at the airport. It is in the city. You need a taxi to get from the Airport to the Train Station if you are heading straight to Makkah.
Recommendation
For a group of 3-4, a Taxi/Uber is the best value and most convenient. The cost per person becomes negligible ($3-$4).
